The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and the Labour Party's presidential candidate, Peter Obi, had submitted stand-in presidential running mates to the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and now, the commission has told them the only way they could substitute the names.
While Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential candidate, beat the deadline and submitted the name of Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate, the likes of Labour Party, LP and the All Progressives Congress, APC, are yet to pick their running mates.
Tinibu had submitted Masari's name while Peter Obi submitted the name of Doyin Okupe as his presidential running mate who is his campaign Director-General.
The Independent National Electoral Commission then revealed through their National Commissioner of information and Voter Education, Festus Okoye, that the only means they can substitute the name is by writing to the Commission attached with a sworn affidavit.
He said that there is no form that they received where any of them made any indication that the person's name is their running mate.
He also said that the Space or Place Holder has no place in their constitution and legal framework.

He said, for there to be a substitution of candidate, the Vice presidential candidate must write to them with a sworn affidavit which states that he is withdrawing from the race within the time frame provided by the law. That’s the only way there can be a substitution of candidates.
