Buhari rules out bail option for Nnamdi Kanu

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), on Thursday, ruled out bail for the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.


He said Kanu, who is currently on trial, was being given every opportunity under the law “to justify all the uncomplimentary things said against Nigeria while he was in Britain.”


This was as he reiterated his commitment to leave office for the next administration in May 2023.

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, the President said this at a bilateral meeting with the British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, on the margins of the 26th Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Kigali, Rwanda.

Gunmen have kidnapped Eze Ambrose Ogbu, the traditional ruler of Isuokoma autonomous community in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.


The monarch, it was gathered, was kidnapped on Wednesday night, by the hoodlums at his palace in Isu community, Onicha LGA. A stakeholder from the community, who pleaded for anonymity, for obvious reasons, confirmed the incident to Daily Independent, on Thursday.



 

Six abductees rescued as troops kill bandits in Zamfara

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) says its troops have rescued six victims from captivity in Zamfara.


The development follows the ongoing offensives launched by the military against criminals across the country.



 

Bernard Onyeuko, director of defence media operations, in a statement on Thursday, said the military and other security agencies have recorded significant successes within the last few days.

Onyeuko said the troops of operation Hadarin Daji, on June 21, engaged gunmen at Rafin Dankura in Bakura LGA of Zamfara.


INEC extends working hours to capture more Zamfara residents

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has extended the daily working hours of its staff to capture more eligible would-be voters at its centres in Gusau ahead of the 2023 general elections.


Saidu Ahmed, INEC’s resident electoral commissioner in Zamfara, disclosed this on Thursday.



 

“We now close our gates at 2:00 p.m. But we make sure all those present on the premises of the centres get enrolled before we close for the day,” Mr Ahmed stated.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, presidential running mate, Ifeanyi Okowa has said the All Progressives Congress, APC, and its presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu are not smart.


Okowa said Tinubu’s decision to place his running mate, Kabiru Masari as a placeholder was an indication that the APC is not smart.


Featuring on Channels Television’s Politics Today, the Governor of Delta State, said making Masari a placeholder showed that APC was not organized and not ready for election.
